How can I help my tree stay fresh all season? We've found that these steps help our trees maintain their beauty in your home: Make a straight, fresh cut about one inch off the bottom of the trunk and place the tree in water as soon as possible, at most one hour after making the fresh cut (if longer, make another fresh cut!) If you're not putting the tree up right away, place it in a bucket of water in the garage or outside. Use a stand that is properly sized for your tree to avoid carving bark off the trunk. Those outer layers help the tree absorb the most water. Place tree away from any heat source. The cooler the better! Check the water level every day. Keep at least 2 inches of the trunk submerged in water at all times to prevent sap from forming over the base. Keep in mind that your tree will consume the most water the first 4-5 days, and will slow significantly after that.
